My Alaska Interior Adventure - Part One

It has been quite the adventure since my last post, so much of an adventure that I will be splitting it into two posts.

My interior adventure began with a flight to Anchorage followed by another flight to Fairbanks.  The flights were uneventful, with the exception of some turbulence along the way which didn’t help my mental state. (This was the first time I have flown since helping out with the emergency simulation at the Juneau airport 🤣).  Once in Fairbanks, I headed to the Visitors Center to learn about the must see sights around the area.  After a conversation with one of the Center’s advisors and exploring the Visitor Center, I decided to head to the Ice Sculpture Museum.  It was really cool (pun intended) to visit and check out the different ice sculptures.  Was amazing to me how the ice is so clear and how the artists, by just using  ice and snow, are able to create different objects not to mention how well the sculpture translated to the real thing.   I was able to witness a fascinating  demonstration of ice carving there as well.  Next I visited the WW2 monument and learned about the pilots that ferried planes to Russia for the Lend Lease Act. The Lend Lease Act was where the US made equipment and shipped it to Russia (and other countries) for the war effort.   From there I walked to Pioneer World and explored for a couple of hours.  I checked out the paddlewheel boat located in the park and also spent some time exploring the log cabins that are from the original settlers of Fairbanks.  My adventure also included having a sourdough meat lover’s pizza and a milkshake (both were very good).  My last adventure of the day was walking to Sven’s Basecamp Hostel where I stayed in the Eagle’s Nest– a tent that is sitting on a platform constructed in a tree.  It was super cool and I had an absolute blast the first day of my adventure.

The second day was an early morning to catch the train for Denali. National Park and to see Mt. McKinley.   Arriving at  the train station early, I was able to explore the station including a model train area in the station.  It was a very cool display and was able  to spend a little time talking to the volunteer about the trains.  Once it was time to board, I hopped on the train and began the ride to Denali.  It was so cool to see the interior of Alaska by rail. The ride even came with a surprise that allowed me to enjoy being in an outdoor area of the train to take pictures and videos.  After arriving at Denali, I went to the Visitors Center to review the day’s activity schedule and spent some time studying the information around the center.  Once I had gathered my information, I decided to go to the Sled Dog area, watch the demonstration and see the sled dog puppies that I had been watching grow up on livestream all summer.  The puppies have HUGE paws!  I know that puppies can have big paws but the husky puppies’ paws were so big in comparison to other puppies’ paws!!   I am sure it has to do with them needing to get around in the snow.  Next was some dinner at the Morino Grill in Denali Park   then a ride to The Perch near Healy where I stayed while in Denali.  This is a good place to stop for now and part 2 will be coming sometime soon.

To my new blog followers, I hope you are doing well,  having safe travels and that the train is treating you well!   I put a contact section on the blog so you can reach out if you would like since we might not have traded contact information.

As always, please let me know of anything I can pray about for you!
