January Juneau Update

It is my hope everyone’s 2025 is off to an amazing start! My January has been quite a great start to a new year, with plenty of adventures to share!

The new year began with meeting a coworker out at the glacier and viewing the Northern Lights. What a show it was!!!! We had a clear night in Juneau, which isn’t extremely rare; however, we also had strong Auroras on the same night which is a bit more rare. Let me tell you the lights were DANCING!!! It was the best Auroras I have ever seen, and many others agree with me on that statement! It was a very unique and Alaskan way to ring in the New Year. Later on New Year’s Day, my coworker convinced me it was going to be fun to do a Polar Dip, so he and I went in the Pacific Ocean for a few seconds (along with some 100 plus others). It honestly was not as bad as we thought it would be, but not sure if I will do it again.

The new year also had an adventure back to Southern Illinois to celebrate a belated Thanksgiving and Christmas which we decided to call Chrisgiving. It was very odd to get on a plane in Alaska where it was 43 degrees and raining to arrive in Southern Illinois where it was 20 degrees with ice on the ground. There is just something not right with that. I was able to get in safely before the 7 inches of snow fell and had an absolute blast out in the snow with the dogs, drone, and a Jeep Gladiator. Even was able to get some flight practice in with my drone taking photos for local friends and just flying it around and having fun. My trip home also allowed me to say hello to many friends (The Quatros evening was a great as was game night) and spend some time catching up,in addition to getting some needed relaxation. I made it safely back to Juneau where it had not dipped below freezing the entire time I was visiting Illinois. We have been hearing about all the cold and snow in the lower 48. Just so you know, we are expected to get over 15 inches of snow with single digit temps over the next week — don’t feel left out!

One of the questions I was asked several times when I was in Southern Illinois was: “Do I like Alaska?”. I really do like Alaska! It has allowed for many opportunities and adventures that I would not have even dreamed of a little over a year ago. More importantly, moving to Alaska has allowed me to learn a lot about myself, likes, dislikes, what I value, etc. The most important thing I have learned since I moved to Alaska, is just how much the Lord blesses us when we put our faith and trust in Him. I will admit it was a leap of faith for me to pack up the car and move to Juneau, but I am so glad I did. The Lord has blessed me more than I could have imagined in the last year and there are already some amazing blessings on the horizon fast approaching. So I encourage everyone, no matter how big or small, to take that next leap of faith and see how much the Lord will bless you. As always if you need prayer for anything, please let me know!

Stay Blessed!
