Life in Juneau - Week 1
My first week in Juneau was both extremely eventful and uneventful at the same time. After getting off the ferry, I drove to my apartment, did all the paperwork and spent the day moving in. Sunday, I attended Glacier Valley Baptist Church and met a few people there (one of whom is a co-worker) and did a little exploring around my neighborhood. The first part of the week I spent time running errands to the DMV, Fred Meyer, and downtown Juneau (I live in a section of town called The Valley). I also went out to the Mendenhall Glacier enjoying some nature time. My first day of work was on Wednesday. The remainder of the week was working, doing some shopping after work and getting adjusted to local life and apartment living. The weekend brought time exploring and seeing some unique things in Juneau since it was a nice sunny day! I went back out to the glacier and just watched it for a while. It was amazing to see just how fast the scenery would change from the cold air of the glacier mixing with the warmer air surrounding it. I also took time and drove to the end of the road on the North Side of Juneau, which was a fun and unique experience. I ended the day with some meal prep and getting ready for my first full week at work.
Juneau is proving to be quite unique! I was (and still am) extremely surprised at how laid back everyone is around Juneau. I guess it comes from having to wait longer for things like mail and such, but it was mind blowing to me how laid back and go-with-the-flow everyone is about their everyday lives. Juneau is also unique in how small it is in population for being a capital city. Almost everyone I encounter is super friendly, even people that don’t give the impression that they would be friendly. Juneau is definitely not a place that just anyone would want to live, but if you have a sense of adventure, it is an amazing place to live where each day will bring something new and exciting!
My suspicion is that my entries will be much shorter on average since I am working full time. I will endeavor to keep a weekly account of my Juneau adventures, and all the fun and exciting things going on. I will be sure to include my thoughts about Juneau and the happenings around town as I discover them. If you have a specific request about something in Juneau or about Alaska in general, please leave a comment and I will try to address it in a future post! I may not know the answer, but finding out the answer may prove to be an adventure itself! I hope everyone at home is doing well and enjoying the fall weather!

Glad things are going well. Keep exploring and letting us see the beauty of your new home.
