Life in Juneau - Weeks 2 and 3
Weeks 2 and 3 in Juneau have been great! I decided to combine the posts since most of the week is work and such– nothing overly exciting. The weekends are more fun with more to share. The second weekend here, I went to the malls and discovered there was a second card store in town and made a new friend there. He moved here last year and has been getting settled in since. He used to have his own business being a hunting and fishing guide in Wrangle. He has interesting stories to share. I also discovered a 3D printing shop in the mall and have gotten to know the owner. I also went out and enjoyed some sun at the Mendenhall Glacier and hiked around for a little bit.
The next week brought my first Alaskan snow! After calling for 6 to 8 inches, It turned out to be about 1.5 inches. Other than the snow, Week 3 followed suit to Week 2 of work and handling various tasks after work. The weekend brought more exploring at the Mendenhall Glacier and attending a gathering of 5 local churches for a praise and worship night!
I still find it surprising how laid back everyone is in Alaska! Though I don’t know that laid back is the right word because that implies laziness and people here definitely aren’t lazy. Maybe a better phrase would be that people here just pace themselves and that pace is a lot slower than all the other places I’ve been so far. I absolutely love it! I am really enjoying my job. I have learned much already and there is plenty more to learn!
Wishing everyone a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!
