Life in Juneau 2024 - Week 1 and 2

Well, here we are in 2024 and what a start to the year it has been.!  On the work front, nothing overly exciting has been happening.  I have been staying busy, learning new things every day, and helping out with projects.  I am continually thankful for this opportunity.  The biggest news of the past couple weeks has been the weather.  Last week we had temperatures in the single digits and below zero.  Needless to say, it makes it more interesting when going places allowing for extra time to warm  vehicles up.  Now I can appreciate even more vehicles equipped with remote start and heated seats.  Very handy features!  The nice thing about the extremely cold temperatures is clouds don’t form, so we had several nice sunny days.  The temperatures have now warmed up which provided us with around 8 inches of snow yesterday (1/14)  and they are predicting 10-12 inches of wet heavy snow tomorrow (1/15),   We will see if it actually happens.  I didn’t get out to explore much when the temperatures were so cold, but I did get to go before the cold spell.  While out and about, I encountered a friendly local who told me about some cool things to check out around Juneau.  I am planning on getting out and exploring more as the weather allows.   Hoping in a post soon I will have some awesome pictures of the Northern Lights.  Up to this point, the weather has not been conducive to that.  I am told by the locals that late January into February I should have the opportunity to see them.  I have my camera sitting by my door ready when the conditions align.  In the meantime, being indoors more has allowed me to experiment with some new recipes (Cheeseburger Soup, Skillet Lasagn) and learning how to make pasta (the old fashioned way – no pasta machine).  It has also given me time to reflect on all that God has done and continues to do in my life and to further enlighten me as to my purpose on this earth.

I hope everyone has had a blessed start to 2024, and please let me know if I can pray for you for any reason.

P.S.  I have started looking into dates for a trip back to So. Illinois for a visit.  Since this is a public site, I will not be publishing those dates here.   When dates are finalized, you will know!   I’ll ask you to reach out to Mom or email me to work out a time we can visit.
