Juneau Update - It Finally Happened!
It finally happened!! I got to see the Northern Lights!! It was super cool to see them and what an experience to add to my list of adventures! I will say it was quite different than I expected. You always see them in the movies — these super bright and dancing beams of lights. It was a very different experience than that this time. Don’t get me wrong, it was totally amazing as you can see from the photos. (I hear they can appear like it does in the movies, but that is a fairly rare occurrence)
Work continues to go well, and I continue to learn new things to expand my skills and enjoy every bit of it. Juneau continues to be an interesting place in all ways. Last week it was close to 50 degrees at the beginning of the week; and by the end of the week into the weekend, it has been close to 0 degrees! It has also been interesting to see where the snow has melted and where there is still a significant amount still on the ground. Out by the giant ice cube (Glacier), there is still a significant amount of snow and ice on the ground. It hardly looks like it has melted. Closer to downtown Juneau, there is snow left where it was piled up, but otherwise there isn’t much left and it is starting to look like springtime.
Feather and Shep seem to be getting settled in well. I hear that they still have disagreements, but they are getting fewer and less noisy about it.
I hope everyone enjoys the pictures of the Northern Lights and has a great week! Please let me know of any prayer requests..
P.S. I have finalized the dates for my first trip home. There are still some details I need to work out, but feel free to reach out to mother or I, and we can share the details thus far.

I’m so happy you got to see the Northern Lights. They didn’t show up while we were in Alaska last year. My brother got to see them though, and he said the same thing. They saw mostly white lights from the naked eye, however the camera lens showed it as blue/purple. . What an amazing adventure you are on. We are seeing your mom and dad more through RSB. Come to class if you can. Love Ya.
Enjoy your updates and photos. Hope we get to see you when you come home.
Josh that’s awesome. How pretty.
Nice photos, Joseph. Glad that you are having a great time in Juneau. I have been hearing about Anchorage having an amazing amount of snow this year, and was wondering if you were getting the same in Juneau. I am enjoying your journal and look forward to seeing you when you return for a visit. In scouting news, we have just restarted Venture Crew 7004, chartered by the Plum Street Association (Knights of Columbus) and recruiting scouts. Maybe they can do high adventure is Alaska one day! Keep in touch, Steve.
