Post-Southern Illinois Visit Update
Wow, a lot has happened since my last post. One of the main events was a trip back to Southern Illinois. It was super nice to fly back for a visit and spend some time around the area. I got to meet my four legged replacement—-an almost two year old female German Shepherd named Feather. She was a lot of fun and it was wonderful to see my Shep guy! Also, I was blessed to be able to visit with Grandma Helen as the Lord called her home May 2.
After the journey back to Juneau, there was sunshine the whole week! It was great to come back to and be able to enjoy that sunshine. The daylight hours are now getting longer as well which is taking some adjusting. When I head to work around 6:30 a.m.,it is already daylight and it is getting dark past 8:30 p.m. now.
This past weekend brought a ton of festivities and fun. The main event of the weekend was the Juneau Maritime Festival on Saturday. The festival was very similar to a street festival, but held on one of the docks. The festival began with an Alaska Native American canoe landing followed by native dances. Following the dancing, there was an open invite for anyone that wanted to help row the canoes. A co-worker and I decided to follow the group down to the water and help row the canoe. While we were out in the middle of the harbor rowing the canoe, a US Navy Destroyer came into port as part of the festival. After landing the canoes and giving our thanks for the opportunity, it was time to go get some lunch. I selected Reindeer Sausage Pizza from one of the vendors. It was AMAZING. The final large event of the day was a tug of war competition. My work put together a team and I was a member.. We didn’t win the competition, but we did have a fun time. The Navy even cheered our team on (when they weren’t competing against us)! I am still quite sore, but it was an amazing and fun experience.
Sunday brought the final bit of excitement for the weekend, which was touring the US Navy Destroyer, the USS William P. Lawrence (DDG-110). It was really cool to tour the upper decks and learn a bit about one of the active duty ships.
I hope everyone is doing well after the weather in the area area and getting exciting plans ready for summer!
Been advised that the Northern Lights have been visible in Southern Illinois and they have been really visible here as well. How cool is it that we are seeing the same and yet so far away from each other!
Please let me know of any special prayer requests. I will keep everyone apprised of my summer adventures and any trips back to the area.
Happy Mother’s Day to the special ladies out there — enjoy your day and Congratulations to the 2024 Graduates—you made it!

Sorry I missed you when you were back visiting – always glad for life updates and knowing you are doing well – thanks for always being a praying guy????????????
