Juneau - SNOW!

Since my last post, what a wild few days it has been! Currently, Juneau is tied with the second most snow on record for the month of January with a total of just over 69 inches. If we get 6 more inches of snow before January ends, we will break the record set in the late 1940’s. As you will be able to see from the attached photos, the most recent round of snow had my car completely covered and buried. The roof had about 3 feet of snow on top and there was a solid 3 feet piled around it with drifts that could have been up to 4 feet. It took me a good half an hour to get my Jeep dug out. After I did a little exploring and helped someone stuck in the snow, I decided I had enough adventure for one day. It was amazing to look out my window and watch the snow come down throughout the day. The work-from-home days were nice to allow snow gazing periodically and the option not to have to get out. I had not fully understood why people sometimes referred to static on the TV as snow, but I now fully understand that reference. It has been quite an interesting first winter in Alaska for a guy from the lower 48. A memorable one for sure and there are a few more winter months to go!

I have been out on several occasions trying to see the northern lights, without success. I did get some pretty cool night photos as you’ll see below.

I hope everyone is staying warm and safe since there have been several days that Southern Illinois has been colder than in Juneau!

Please let me know of any specific prayer requests.

P.S. No update yet on the possible Illinois visit.
